I've sat across the table from hundreds of buyers. The ones who got hurt usually didn't get hurt at closing. They got hurt in the first two weeks, when they fell for a listing and never stopped to ask the hard questions. By the time diligence caught it, they'd spent $65,000 or more on lawyers and accountants, and three months of their life.

DQI stands for Deal Quality Index. It's the screen I wish every one of them had used first. It won't tell you what a business is worth. It tells you whether the deal deserves more of your time and money, and what has to change before it does.

What's Inside

• Why most bad deals go wrong before diligence starts
• The DQI factors I score every deal on, with what to ask for
• Quick-kill gates that stop a bad deal fast
• A final score and a clear next step: pass, renegotiate, or move forward
• Worksheets to score your own deal
